    Description

    Kurdish Oriental Carpets

Kurdistan is one of the most beautiful provinces of Iran, which has a very green and mountainous nature. The capital of this province, Sanandaj (Senneh), is world-famous for oriental carpet and kilim weaving. Exact information is not available from the beginning of carpet weaving in Kurdistan, but the history of the Sanandaj carpet weaving industry is estimated to be more than one hundred years.

Kurdistan is considered one of the best areas for livestock, especially sheep breeding, due to its vast and smooth pastures. The wool used in the weaving of Sanandaj carpets is usually of the hand-spun type and has a soft, thin, and very high-quality material. Sanandaj is one of the centers for the production of yarns available throughout Iran and is widely used in Sanandaj wool in the weaving of various textiles. Kurdish oriental handmade carpets are divided into three categories: Sanneh carpets, Bijar carpets, nomadic and rural carpets.

    Sanandaj Carpets (Senneh Rugs)

The Kurdish people call the city of Sanandaj (Senneh). The city of Sanandaj has a history of more than six thousand years. The texture of small and thick carpets in Sanandaj is more common under the influence of nomadic weavings of this region and their nomadic way of life.

    Mahi Design Carpets

Fish design (Mahi design or Herati) is the main design used in Oriental Senneh carpets. Although in the past different designs were woven in this city, today most of the handmade oriental carpets in this city are woven in fish designs.
